The mission of the Carpentersville Police Department is to provide the highest quality police services by working with our community, and sharing our mutual responsibilities for safety, service, and problem resolution.
2010/2011 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- We had five main goals for 2010. The first was that we would vigorously combat gang and drug crimes along with public intimidation. This is an open ended goal. The police department believes that the deterrence and resolution of gang and drug related crime is a priority that cannot be left unattended as long as illegal street gangs exist in the community. Unfortunately, illegal street gangs are firmly rooted in large metropolitan areas. The police department believes that our residents and businesses must feel safe in their neighborhoods in order to enjoy a high quality of.
The members of the police department have resolved to prevent and act upon illegal gang and drug activity. In 2010, we worked diligently to address these issues. For example, the Community Response Team made 214 drug related arrests, 29 gang related arrests, 90 arrests for other offenses, and seized 645 grams of cocaine and 2,115 grams of cannabis, 36 grams of heroin and a total of $130,326.00 in United States currency. The patrol and investigations divisions assisted in theses cases and made additional drug and gang related arrests and seizures.
- Another police department goal involved working to make our streets safer and to reduce the number of traffic crashes. The police department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit had a productive year in working to improve safety and combat the destruction of Village streets. One of the Traffic Unit’s main objectives was to reduce the deterioration of village streets through strict overweight truck enforcement. Ninety overweight trucks were cited. Additionally, the Traffic Unit issued 386 moving citations 312 warning citations and 1 Driving under the Influence arrest.
- A third goal was to enhance officer and department professionalism. The Carpentersville Police Department, and its commitment to excellence, instituted a new department-wide “online” training module for continuing education training. This training, provided by the College of DuPage and the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy, is but one of the continuing education endeavors undertaken by our officers. This training consists of contemporary and relevant updates in federal and state laws as well as procedures and tactics. The number of officers attending training classes at various locations increased significantly as well.
- Our fourth goal included addressing behaviors that negatively affect the community’s quality of life. This became more challenging with the loss of a part-time social worker, our exit from the North Central Narcotics Task Force, the loss of six officers, the elimination of four full-time civilian positions (two were reduced to part-time status), and the elimination of an additional part-time civilian, all due to budget cuts. However, we continue to target trouble spots and respond to resident complaints in order to prevent public disorder.
- Our last goal involved partnering with various community organizations to prevent and deter neighborhood problems. In order to meet this goal, the department continued to partner with the management of the Fox View Apartment complex who in turn provided the department with access to their newly installed elaborate camera system. Furthermore, we continue to provide Crime Free Housing education to rental property owners, and made efforts to continue our neighborhood watch groups, thus enhancing our working relationships with homeowners and the neighborhoods.
2011/2012 OBJECTIVES
As stated above, the police department established five main goals:
- We will partner with various community organizations to prevent and deter neighborhood problems while the police department continues to address behaviors that negatively affect the community’s quality of life.
- We will seek to address aspects of risk management for the police department that create accidents and related expenses that can reasonably be avoided through employee education and awareness.
- We will persist in vigorously combating all forms of illegal street gang and drug crimes.
- We will continue to strive to make area streets safer through education and enforcement of traffic laws.
- We will enhance officer and department professionalism.
